Vietnamese Social Services – VSS – is committed to uplifting the identity of Vietnamese-
Minnesotans while partnering with our communities to create solutions, responding to complex
issues and needs of refugee and immigrant Minnesotans. Over the years, we have evolved to
follow what is most relevant to our larger communities that also include Karen/Kareni from
Burma and East Africans from Somalia and Ethiopia.
VSS is seeking a full-time Community Program Coordinator (CPC), reporting to the Executive
Director, to coordinate community programs and to ensure their implementation success.
The CPC provides community development, advocates for community members, assists clients
directly with information and referral services, and facilitates an awareness of social needs and
trends within the community. The role of the CPC varies depending on the cycle of key projects.
The CPC will undertake a variety of administrative and program management tasks, including:
team’s communication, organization/planning of meetings, outreach events, and program
operations. The CPC will work with key leaders and members in the community as well as
community and faith based organizations, schools and other community partners to implement
the work plan. The goal is to ensure the holistic approach and Covid 19 integration of VSS
services while making the programs and funding stronger through research, including data
collection, evaluation, reporting and participant feedback.
The ideal candidate will have a proven ability to conduct research through both qualitative and
quantitative data collection and analysis. They will be an excellent writer who will support our
partnership with funders and nonprofit/government organizations. They are willing to adapt to
change and meet community and VSS’s needs in times of high community needs. They will work
closely with project staff, leading and mentoring as needed to deliver program outcomes and
reporting requirements. They will support the Executive Director on aligning community needs
with programmatic strategies, and on program development.
Core Functions:
 Provide positive representation of VSS through community relations, program
engagement, and networking with key stakeholders
 Develop and maintain positive relationships with key partners, funders, staff,
volunteers, community members, participants, and other stakeholders.
 Communicate and coordinate program services with all team members

 Participate in professional meetings, workshops, and staff meetings.
 Provide support to the team to ensure program goals and objectives are met
 Coordinate meeting preparation, logistics and communications with participants and
staff
 Lead and conduct outreach/ community engagement
 Coordinate innovative prevention, education and advocacy activities.
 Maintain project specific presence on social media sites, which include Facebook,
Twitter, Flickr, and You Tube and use the social media platforms as a tool for
communication and campaigns to increase community awareness and encourage
behavior change. 
 Create processes, tools, and templates for program research, project monitoring, and
grant reporting
 Conduct and write research to inform program strategies, grant applications, and
reports
 Lead grant reporting process, Ensure grant compliance, including Covid-19
responsiveness to the needs of communities
 Monitor grant portfolio through collaboration with program staff, tracking grant awards,
deliverables, metrics, , ensure prompt/accurate grant acknowledgement and deadlines
 Communicate grant requirements to relevant team members (e.g. leadership, program,
finance)
 Lead grant huddles to align teams for successful grant outcomes and reporting
 Assist with special event planning and execution as necessary or assist in programming
activities and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
 Bachelor’s Degree in the field of Education, Human Services, Social Work or Community
Development or equivalent knowledge, skills, and experience
 Organized, detailed-oriented, and comfortable with working with diverse population
and a high-intensity environment
 Demonstrated strong interest in addressing societal inequities, including refugee and
immigrant issues
 Experience with research, including participant observation, interviewing, and statistical
analysis
 Excellent communication and cultural competence skills with multicultural groups and
diverse group of stakeholders
 Professional and persuasive writing skills, including grant writing
 Experience managing multiple assignments with firm deadlines and attention to details
 Nonprofit fundraising experience are pluses but not required

Internships

The Vietnamese Social Services of Minnesota offers hands-on volunteer and internship opportunities! Most internships begin during the months of January, May, and August, with occasional openings throughout the year. Volunteer positions for various programs such as our Senior – Elder Circle and Youth – Jump Start are available year round.

Please note all internship positions are unpaid and require a minimum of 15 hours per week. Volunteers must meet the minimum age requirement of 18. For youth interested in getting involved under the age of 18, and scouts looking to inquire about possible projects, contact huetpham@vssmn.org.
